Venue Recommendation: No Man’s Land

I simply must begin this review with a saying: “Great things happen when you least expect it”, as the saying is so true for the experience I had at the opening of Bangkok’s new live music venue – No Man’s Land. When my boyfriend told me that we’re going to the opening of a rooftop bar owned by a daughter of a famous rock guitarist, I must admit that the first image in my mind was yet another hi-so event with pretentiousness in the air and fake smiles captured in numerous selfies. However, as one of my favourite blues bands in Bangkok, The Vintagers, were performing that night, we decided to give it a try. And, boy, am I glad we did!

Located behind famous La Bua in the heart of Sathorn, a hidden entrance takes you by an elevator to an indoor rooftop where you are immediately sucked in by a friendly staff and quite a vivid atmosphere with a hint of 90’s vibe. The Vintagers begun the night with their reviving blues rock sound, while Volt Jingjit’s violin caused jaw-dropping faces all around. Later on, Olarn Project – the veterans of Thai rock scene took the stage, and the night turn into quite an exclusive gig.  All my musicians friends and acquaintances present at the bar (I the drummer of Rosalyin, Aof the guitarist of Daddy C and Bangkok Mojo and En from Choo Jai, together with Daddy C and The Vintagares) occupied the first row and turned into teenagers starstruck by these superstars on the stage. I was also absolutely in awe of these great musicians, and although I was hearing their music for the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed their sound, the smooth and skillful moves of the guitar legend Olarn “Oe” Promjai as well as the amazing voice of Kor Nopanan.  All in all, it was a great night, that promises many more live music adventures with a cool view.

Later on, I found out who the Olarn Project was, and just the fact that they were the opening act for Deep Purple absolutely blew my mind, as I realized the exclusivity of the night! No pretentiousness, no selfies and fake smiles, only great music, great people and absolutely fantastic vibe!

So make sure you visit No Man’s Land for one of their live music nights, special happy hours or ladies nights with some interesting promotions and events. And who knows, maybe they will have another exclusive musical adventure one you least expect it!
